Biography

I am a lifelong photographer (got my first camera when I was 12, a Canonette GIII), married for 30 years, father of 3, living in the Bay Area. I focus on nature, architecture, people, and anything that catches my eye. I love the look of film, particularly medium format, but the high quality of today's iPhones means that I have a great digital camera with me 24/7, which means that I rarely miss an opportunity.

For me photography is the chance to truly see your surroundings. So often the world around us is merely a back drop to our routine, but during those times when I take the time to actually see, a whole new world opens up.  Sometimes it just happens, but it always happens when I am traveling, in a new place. I am always conscious of composition and light, simplifying the scene whatever it is into essential and non-extraneous elements. I rely on the ability to see in 2-D, to see in B+W, which comes when I relax the eyes. It's not easy to explain, but it's what works for me.

This site will evolve over time as I take new pictures, and as I go further into the film archive.
